Jean Myrial Thomas' Obituary
Jean M. Thomas, 84, a life-long Tacoma resident, passed away July 12, 2003. Born August 20, 1918 to Edward Merrils Thomas and Lillian (Henderson) Thomas, she grew up in the McKinley Hill neighborhood and graduated from Lincoln High School. From high school Jean went to work at George D. Poe Realty, where she was a mainstay for more than 50 years.In recent years, the Lincoln High Class of 1936 reunion committee was a source of much fellowship and enjoyment. A sociable person, Jean also actively participated in the 1918 Club, Evergreen Chapter #24, in the American Society of Women Accountants, and in Venture Club/Soroptimist International, for which she served as president of the local chapter for several years. After retirement, Jean volunteered at the Tacoma-Pierce County Visitors' Bureau. Helping travelers was a natural outcome of her own love of traveling, an interest she shared with family and friends.Jean was the repository of the family archives. She had a keen memory and could identify every face in the old family pictures. And she never forgot a birthday. She kept the far-spread family connected with cards and presents. Her kind, generous and gentle spirit will be greatly missed.Jean was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia T Fulton, who passed away on May 27th of this year. She is survived by her nieces, Merrilinn Zeppa of Seattle and Donna Tyson of Wenatchee, and nephew, David Fulton of Hillsborough, NJ; by her grandnieces, Virginia Angert of Fallston, MD, and Abigail Fulton of Hillsborough, NJ, and her grandnephews, Daniel Fulton of Matawan, NJ, and Nick Zeppa of Washington, DC, and by her great-grandniece Danielle Angert and her great-grandnephew Joseph Angert, both of Fallston, MD.There will be a memorial service for Jean on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at 3:00 PM at the Mountain View Celebration of Life Building, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Tacoma. A reception follows immediately. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Soroptimist Scholarship Fund at Soroptimist International of the Americas, Two Penn Center Plaza, Suite 1000, Philadelphia, PA 19102-1883. (There will be forms at the service.).
