Jean Haringer's Obituary
Jean Ann was born to Arthur Holien and Ida 'nee Haller in Ft. Snelling, Minnesota (St. Paul) on January 8, 1936, and was baptized on April 2, 1936, at the Post Chapel. Jean was confirmed June 5, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jackson, Mississippi. Jean's dad served in the Army; therefore, the family a lot. Living in the following places from 1936-1960: Ft. Snelling, MN; Camp Wolters, Mineral Wells, TX; Camp Roberts, North Little Rock, AR; Camp Fannin, Gladewater, TX; Jackson, MS (her dad worked with the National Guard); Ft. Benning, GA; Omaha, NE (year and a half while her dad was stationed in Japan); then the family moved to Camp Drake, Japan (just north of Tokyo) for a year and half; and finally to Ft. Lewis, WA.
Jean graduated from Clover Park High School in Lakewood, WA in 1954. She was employed as a Federal Civil Service employee at Ft. Lewis from May 1955 to October 1958. This is where Jean met Carl and the rest is history. Jean and Carl were married October 11, 1958, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tacoma Washington. Their marriage of many years was blessed with a daughter, Deborah Ann Good (Morris) and a son, Brian David (Ana), two grandsons, Mathew Ryan Moreno (Jaimie) and Andrew Carl Moreno (Angelica), great grandchildren, Isabella, Addysen, Ruby, Leo, Carson, Briella, Emerson, Greyson, and Jaxson, along with surviving sister Mary Walden, Kansas City, MO, and four nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother Kenneth John Holien of Louisville, KY in 2016. Jean's oldest brother, Richard Paul Holien was killed June 30, 1966, in Vietnam. Jean was active in her church Zion Lutheran participating in a number of ladies groups, choir, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School teacher, Altar Guild, and helped cook dinners, and served as Zion's secretary from December 1971 to February 2001. Jean felt "called" to serve the Lord in this way serving with pastors Eckhoff, Bauder, Rhode, and Schmidt. Jean was a devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family and church were her life. She had a strong and firm faith and love of God.
Jean enjoyed her family, home, gardening, and baking, especially known for her Christmas cookies. She loved to read and attend the State High School Basketball Tournament every year with Carl.
