Jean Comfort's Obituary
Jean Lymburn Comfort
(July 24, 1926 – January 25, 2018)
Jean passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon on January 25th at the age of 91. She was born in Hansboro, North Dakota to Roy T. and Janet C. Lymburn.
At the age of 14, Jean moved with her parents to Tacoma. She graduated from Stadium High School in 1943. After graduating high school, Jean attended both the College of Puget Sound and the University of Washington.
In 1946, Jean met the love of her life, Robert Comfort. They married on June 19, 1948, and enjoyed 67 years of marriage until Bob’s death in 2015.
Bob and Jean had six sons: Bob, Jr. (Cathy), Craig (Rose), Kevin, Brian (Wendy), Kim (Kathy), and Cam (Denise). She dedicated herself to taking care of her husband and sons, who were her pride and joy.
In 1991, when Bob retired after over 40 years as a well-respected attorney, he and Jean moved to Valley Center, California. After 15 happy retirement years in California, they returned to the Northwest in 2006 to be closer to family.
Jean enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, crossword puzzles, playing card games (particularly Bridge), attending UW football games (home and away), bowling, dancing, and traveling. Bob and Jean visited all 50 States, Europe, Asia, Australia, Israel, and South America. They often traveled in their RV, accompanied by their beloved Bichon Frise, Vanna White.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Gordon and Wallace. She is survived by her six sons, twelve grandchildren, Joel (Jen), Josh (Amber), Matt (Ashlee), Claire, Trent, Nate, Caitlin, Cara, Jake, Haley, Andy, and Ben, ten great-grandchildren, Peter, Stella, Lucy, Cole, Caia, Avery, Aleena, Ames, Karsen, and Reid, brother-in-law, John Comfort, and foster daughter Camille Moreau.
A special thanks to her caregivers Karen and Sandy. They both provided Jean with loving care over the last year. Also, thank you to the staff at Laurel House (Narrows Glen) for their love and care the past two years.
A memorial service to celebrate Jean will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home on Saturday, February 17th at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gertrude Connell Comfort Memorial Fund at Bellarmine Prep.
