Janice Moore's Obituary
Janice Diane Moore
Janice Diane (J.D.) Moore, of Tacoma, was born July 20, 1946 in Klamath Falls, Oregon. She passed away January 14, 2009 in her home while surrounded by her closest friends and family. Her childhood was spent on family farms in Klamath Falls as well as Tulelake, California, Malin, Oregon, and Mesa, Washington. It was life on the farm that fostered her love of animals, especially cats. There has not been a time in 40 years that she didn't share her home with at least one of her furry friends. Upon graduation from Connell High School in 1964 she moved to Tacoma, where she lived the rest of her life. Her most proud achievement was being a loving, supportive and inspiring mother to her only son. She graduated from Evergreen State College in 1987 with a bachelor's degree emphasizing counseling and social work. J.D. had a rich career with multiple state agencies, working with the homeless, the abused and children. She touched countless lives with her work, giving a voice and validation to members of our society who needed it most. In 1995 she married the love of her life with whom she lived, laughed and loved. The caring and compassion in their relationship was an inspiration to all who knew them. Always a voracious reader, the volumes in her library are uncountable. Her favorite reading was in her Bible and the Scriptures of her LDS faith. As a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, J.D. held many leadership and teaching positions and was known to always have a soft heart and a kind word for those who were in need. Her continued study and commitment to live a faithful life has certainly secured her place in Heaven as a fun, compassionate and spiritual child of God. J.D. is survived by her loving husband Dan Moore of Tacoma, son Michael Schmidt and daughter-in-law Jennifer Schmidt (nee Cotter) of Spokane, sister Kathleen Russell (nee Cartwright) of Gig Harbor, and nephew David Russell and his wife Rachael Russell (nee Ford) of Gig Harbor. Memorial services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on the corner of South Twelfth and Pearl Streets in Tacoma on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 2:00pm. A reception will immediately follow the services at the same location.
