Janet Worthen's Obituary
Janet Briggs Robbins Worthen Passed away July 31, 2011 in Tacoma. Janet was born in 1920 in Tacoma to Earl and Ethel (Grinnell) Robbins. Janet grew up in Tacoma and Lakewood. During WWII, she joined the Navy WAVES. She married a civil engineer, F.R. Worthen, in 1946. They took their young family to live in Somalia, Viet Nam, Thailand and Guatemala. Later they continued on to Alaska and Saudi Arabia, returning to Lakewood in retirement. Janet was a member of Interlaaken Garden Club for 63 years and the Lakewood Book Club. Janet is survived by her three children, Helen (Jack) Jones, Kathy (Bill) Heinecke, and Edward (Connie) Worthen, six grandchildren, Tanya (Brian) Fulton, Brian (Lynn) Kling, John (Sherry) Heinecke, David (Joy) Heinecke, Diana Worthen, and David Worthen, and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials can be sent to Interlaaken Garden Club, PO Box 98039, Des Moines, WA 98198 - Funds to be used to benefit horticultural scholarships at WSU.
