Janet Medley's Obituary
Janet Medley was born to Oscar and Alma Moseid on February 22, 1938. She joined her parents, and older brother Don, in Thief River Falls Minnesota. At age 4 Janet and Don, with their mother, traveled by train to live in Tacoma, WA where their dad had found work.
In her youth Janet was very involved in her church, Olivett Lutheran, on the hilltop. She was in the choir and taught Sunday school. During her years at Stadium high school, and until she married, she worked as a bookkeeper for Arden’s clothing store in downtown Tacoma.
In December of 1958 Janet married Don Medley. They celebrated 58 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life founded on love of family and a zeal for life; sharing good times, and difficult ones, with family and friends. During these years Janet was a dedicated volunteer at her children’s schools, she also enjoyed her Bridge groups, Women’s Bowling League at Tower Lanes, membership in the Lillian Shotwell Orthopedic Guild, and Junior League of Tacoma.
Janet was an unflappable Norwegian woman, always kind, calm, and steady. Even through the challenges of aging, mom put her best self forward everyday. By her example she taught us about grace, strength, the importance of a positive attitude, and dedication to family and friends.
Janet was preceded in death by her son Mark, her husband Don, and her brother Don Moseid. She is survived by her daughter Kathy Maxey (Jerry), son Jason Medley (Chris). Grandchildren,Joey Schaefer, Maizy Smith, Emma Jansen, Darby Medley, Riley Medley. Great grandchildren Arthur and Morgan Jansen, and Lyla Smith.
There will be a celebration of life for Janet on Friday, October 17, at 1:00 in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Cemetery in Lakewood. A reception will follow.
