Janet Babbit's Obituary
Janet D. Babbit, 84, of Lakewood passed away Friday January 24th at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma. Born September 21st 1935 in San Diego California, Jan spent her career in the banking industry. In her youth she enjoyed the beach and swimming. She studied at San Diego State University where, she was active in the Kappa Delta sorority, later graduating from University of Puget Sound.
Jan was active in her children’s education, substitute teaching and earning awards for her commitment to the school community. She enjoyed creating art, especially pottery and drawing. In later years she began showing soft coated Wheaton terriers, became interested in golf, playing regularly with her husband at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club, growing flowers, and volunteering at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas Babbit, her sons, Bryan and Robert Haelsig, daughter in law Patricia, stepchildren Alec, Tory and Graham, and grandchildren Julia, Laura, Karl, Hayden, Nick, Mary and Bella and her beloved Wheaton terrier Annie. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Celia Luckenbach, brother Ralph and sister Carolyn Henderson.
She loved and in return was deeply loved by her family. Her strong but gentle spirit will be profoundly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (https://www.lls.org).
A memorial service will be held at St. Mary's Church on Thursday, January 30th at 11am.
