Jane Turner Walker's Obituary
Jane Turner Walker
Our beloved Jane was called home with the Lord on May 10, 2009. She was born on the North Pacific train "North Coast Limited" near Butte, MT, on the way to Seattle. She first lived in Rutland, VT and then moved to Orcas Island, WA near East Sound where she grew up. After high school she majored in education and taught school in Hawaii, California, Oregon and Washington. She taught in many one room school houses throughout the San Juan's including Waldron and Orcas Island. She was a captain on a tugboat and also had her own driving school in Portland, OR. She met her first husband Warren Houghton in Hawaii and her second husband Geoffrey Walker on Orcas Island. She loved to travel and has many friends around the world. She especially loved New Zealand and spent many months there. She was very active in politics and was good friends with WA Gov. Booth Gardner. She was very involved in her grandchildren's activities. Jane was very ambitious and even moved back to her childhood house on Orcas when she was 83 where she lived until she was in her late eighties. She spent her remaining years in Bellevue near family. She is preceded in death by her mother Abbie Langell, father Frederick Turner and brother Sheldon Brooks. She is survived by her sons Meech Houghton and James Walker, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Mom, you will forever be in our hearts. A service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.
