The Precious Memories of Jane Elizabeth Hinds
Friday, September 12, 1941 - Wednesday, August 24, 2022
Jane Elizabeth Hinds. One of a kind at least to me because she was mine……but not mine alone, also my sister and my brother and I’m sure they would say the same, there wasn’t another Jane.
She was a beautiful mother of three, my sister Regina and my brother Curtis and last, but not least….Veronica (me).
For most of our childhood, our mother raised us alone; there was a time she worked three jobs at once but you never would have known. She purchased a house that became our home….filled with love, nurturing and laughter…..almost like a storybook….happily ever-after. She made sure we never went without; we had no worries of scarcity, hunger, thirst or drought. She saw to it that we were clothed, fed and had a roof over our heads and the only thing that poured or leaked was the love from her heart; so gentle and sweet.
When we laid down to go to sleep, we had nothing to fear, we were comforted with warm blankets, prayer and peace….when you have a moment, read Isaiah 26:3…
She wasn’t only a precious and an amazing woman and mother, she was kind to strangers, friends and others. If you needed a place to stay for a while, she opened the doors of her home with a smile. If it was money that you needed to borrow, she opened her purse to get you through the week or simply through tomorrow. If you were hungry she would open her refrigerator door or buy you groceries at the store; if she had it to give, it was yours.
I remember doing my homework at the dining room table, watching mom figuring out the bills and paying what she was able. Quietly, I would hear her say, “I know I owe you $50 but I can only pay $25 today.” She wrote a note promising to pay the rest; she kept her word and she always did her best.
There are so many wonderful stories I could share about our mother, Jane Elizabeth Hinds, but as wonderful as they are, there’s not enough time.
Speaking of time, please keep in mind that life is like withering grass…..here today and gone tomorrow; life and breath are only borrowed. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring or even if tomorrow will come so remember to spend time with that precious someone….give them a call or give them a hug when you feel the strings of your heart giving you a tug. If there’s a loved one or a friend you’ve been meaning to visit and if they’re placed on your heart, please don’t dismiss it! A simple “how are you”, a hello or a smile can change someone’s day and give them hope for quite a while. There’s landlines, cell phones, FaceTime and more and if “no contact” is an issue, stand on their porch and talk to them at the door.
Jane passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at the age of 80. She joins our dear sister/her first born child, Regina. Her memory lives on through her two brothers (Frank Martin and Anthony Martin); her three sisters (May Winston, Minnie Martin and Clarice Wright); her son (Curtis B. White); her daughter (Veronica Jones); son-in-law (William A. Jones, Jr.); 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and twins that will be born in March of 2023; although she won’t be here to meet them, her family will share stories and precious memories with them of their great great grandmother. Jane had a host of nieces and nephews as well.
Jane worked at a local bank in Tacoma, Washington for several years. She began as a Teller and then promoted to higher positions. Prior to moving to Washington State from Louisville, Kentucky, Jane and and her sister May, cleaned houses. Jane was the mother of three children and May the mother of five. They were the dynamic dual…..one of them had a day shift and the other an evening shift so they babysat each other’s children….sisters of sisters; a relationship stronger than the strength of two misters.
For those that knew Jane, know that her passion was dancing and singing in her younger years. She was great at math and really enjoyed word puzzles….She was great at creating an atmosphere of joy and laughter; effortlessly….smile! She had a unique and contagious laugh that made the room come alive!
Our mother’s greatest passion and gift were without doubt her prayers…I know The Father heard her…. He was with us when she couldn’t be there…..to watch over us to make sure we were safe, from all hurt, harm and unawares so, I thank my mom and most of all I thank The Father for His tender mercies
and loving care.
A Special Thank You:
Aunt Minnie, Curtis and I thank you for all that you did for your sister/our mom…you loved, cared for and gave of yourself….and beyond.
You showed our mom exceeding kindness and acts of love that can come only from the heart….You were selfless; not selfish until the day our precious mom did depart.
May The Father increase (bless) you abundantly as only He can!
