A short story about my favorite teacher~~~The first time I met Jim (Mr. Kerns) was when I was a 10 year old 4th grader at South Prairie Grade School. He didn't mind that I bribed Irene Detriech (who sat behind me)to tickle my back during class. He came across as a lion, but was a lamb in reality.I'm proud to say that we remained in contact for the next 44 years, through letters, thoughts, cards and phone calls.I am grateful that we were able to speak on 7/4/05 and experienced one of our unique converations. Of course Jim was quick with wit and never lost his incredible sense of humor.
On his 75th birthday, I faxed a birthday wish to the restaurant where he dined that evening, accompanied by a special dessert to be delivered to his table. He later told me that was one of the most special gifts he had ever received. I will hold that close in my heart.
I told my brother, Mark (who also knew Jim) last night that I *loved* Jim. My brother was quick to correct me and say, no, *You love Jim* and went on to say ~Love is not a force that can be brought to an end by the mere passing of the loved ones' time of mortal awareness~
You will always be with us, as hearts do not forget.
Thank you.
