James Kyle Pease, 1930-2013
Beloved husband, father, businessman, wise counsel and mentor, Jim Pease passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 8.
Born September 10, 1930 in Ashland, OR, Jim worked with his father in the cattle ranching business and as a young man, loved driving the cattle trucks to the auctions in Eastern Washington.
After graduating from Lincoln High School, he served in the US Army during the Korean War. When he returned home, he joined with his father and brothers to grow Pease & Sons, a contracting business that became a successful and well-know enterprise throughout the Puget Sound region.
Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, and his gift for understanding even the most complex financial details, Jim became very involved with real estate development. He loved the art of negotiating the deal, and throughout his career, formed multiple successful business partnerships and forged lifelong friendships with many of his business associates. He never formally retired from his business affairs and regularly lent his experience and wise financial counsel to family, friends and colleagues.
Jim was a member of the Tacoma Yacht Club and loved boating, sailing his yacht on long trips up to San Juan Islands, Canada and Alaska. Later on he returned to his love of driving the big rigs when he and his wife Nelly toured the United States and Canada in their 45’ Marathon motor coach.
He was a treasured husband, father, mentor and friend to many and will be missed by all.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Nelly Pease; children, Patricia(Joseph) Candiotta of Lakewood, Karen (Bob Barlow) Pease of Sumner, Carolyn Olsen of Sacramento, Richard (Leslee) Duval of Bothell, and Renee Angel of Mercer Island and his Brothers Joseph (Ramona) Pease of Tucson and L. David (Claudia) Pease of Lakewood, and greatly missed by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club on the evening of Friday September 6, from 4-8.
