James P. Angelus' Obituary
James Peter "Jim" Angelus August 9, 1921-June 13, 2012
Jim was born in Tacoma, Washington on August 9, 1921. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 13 at the age of 90 with his family at his bedside.
He attended Stanley Elementary, McCarver Jr. High, and Lincoln High School. During his years at Lincoln he was an avid boxer.
After high school he worked at the Bremerton shipyards and Northwest Chair Company. He then began his career as a Longshoreman, retiring after 40-plus years in ILWU Local 23. During his years as a longshoreman he witnessed many changes in development at the Port of Tacoma.
Jim was a member of Tacoma Elks Lodge #142. He would tell stories how as a young boy he watched the building of Allenmore golfcourse and caddied for such people as Mr. Busch of Busch Beer!!! He became an avid golfer, winning many tournaments and numerous trophies.
He loved working in his yard and continued mowing his lawn at 90 years of age.
Jim married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Carnes 67 years ago, May 26, 1945, making their home in Tacoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Constantina Angelos, brothers Taso and Thomas, and sisters Lola Angelos, Angeline Westerlund, Sandra Cox, and Constance Goodwin.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn, sons Richard (Marlene) and Peter (Dyanne), both of Tacoma, daughter Shelley (Jerry) Beroth of Gig Harbor, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, brothers George (Margaret) Angelos and Sonny (Irene) Angelos, sisters Audrey Jacob, Ann Svedberg, and Dorothy Brawner, sister-in-law Yvonne (Ken) Trenberth, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Trisagion Service and viewing will be held Monday, June 18th, 2012 at 5:00pm at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 19th at 11:00am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 1523 So. Yakima, Tacoma. Graveside services following at Mountain View Memorial Park.
