James Lester Brown,'s Obituary
Jim, 81, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 in Puyallup, WA. He was born in Tacoma, WA on April 27, 1926. Jim graduated from Puyallup High School, and enlisted in the Navy during World War II, serving as a sonarman. After his enlistment, he joined the reserve, where he was called up later to serve in the Korean War. He attended college on the GIEBill, and graduated from UPS with a BA degree in Business. After the Korean War he went to work at Boeing Aerospace, and retired in 1990 after 36 years. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Brown, two sisters, Jacqueline Brown of Puyallup, Nancy Ham (Clayton) of Port Ludlow, two brothers, Dennis McHugo (Peggy) of Lacey, Mick McHugo (Mary) of Grandbury, TX, three children, Randall Brown (Dorothy) of Edgewood, Darrell Brown (Gail) of Puyallup, and Pamela Baker (Bob) of Puyallup. Jim had 11 grandchildren, one (David Sowders) who preceded him in death, and 6 great-grandchildren. Jim was a lifetime member of the Puyallup United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Museum of Flight, a longtime member of the NRA and the Cam Riders Racing Club, a member of the Northwest Nostalgia Top Eliminator Association, and was for more than 50 years a member of the Puyallup American Legion Post. He loved all sports, but drag racing was his passion. He owned a dragster that he drove himself till he turned it over to his son Darrell and grandson Jason. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 2:00pm at the Puyallup United Methodist Church. A special Thank You to the Rainier Vista Care Center of Puyallup and Dr. Charles Jacobson for the wonderful care they have given Jim. Donations may be made to the Puyallup United Methodist Church.
