James Leroy Schmidt's Obituary
James (Jim) Leroy Schmidt was called home to be with his Lord on June 22, 2009 (the 407 to heaven)
He was born to Leroy and Mildred (Clausen) Schmidt on November 24, 1931 in Binford, ND.  The family moved to Tacoma when he was a small child and he grew up in the Tacoma area, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1949.  He met Dorothy Sargeant and they were married on December 30, 1949.  He worked for the City of Tacoma for 25 years, retiring in 1983 as an automotive supervisor.   He enjoyed traveling to Arizona after his retirement for many years.
He took pleasure in camping, fishing and hunting with family members.   He was an avid Amateur Radio Operator and spent many hours talking to scores of people worldwide.  He was active in his church, the Lutheran Church of St Paul in Graham, WA.  He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, at the family home, sons Robert of Allyn, Donald (Peggy) of Montesano, Michael (Laura) of Tacoma,  daughters Linda Solberg of Tacoma, and Susanne (Phil) Roach of Puyallup and eight grandchildren.  He is also survived by a brother, Myron (Lil) of Tacoma and sister, Mary (Bill) Walker of Bakersfield, CA, fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his parents and his sister, Lorna Jaech. He will be missed by many.
Our family would also like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice, his nurse Elinda, coordinator Rose and the many others that were involved in his care. We would also like to thank the care provided by Peggy's Quality Sitters.
A private service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church of St Paul in Graham, WA on June 27, 2009 at 12:30 pm.
