Larry was my first company commander as I entered into the service as a 2nd Lieutenant at Ft Lewis. A great person and leader. Louise and I will also remember the early bridge games we played with him and Sally. Our deepest sympathies. Denis & Louise.
I worked for Col Saunders (at the time) while stationed at Ft Shafter, Hawaii. Col Saunders was one of the best officers I ever met and the privilege to work for. I will never forget him and his wife pulling up to the barracks in a VW bus dressed as hippies to drop off a birthday gift to his driver Gus before going to a costume party. My heart goes out to his family. RIP Sir.

Larry's superiors admired him and the troops loved to work with and for Larry. A superb professional who laced work with humor, yet husbanded each person's most precious asset: their time. COL Saunders was a beautiful person inside and out with a true Hawaiian Soul, he loved the Hawaiian culture especially all the beautiful Hawaiian songs and music and who could forget all the stories of Sally and COL Saunders at the Brother Iz Concerts, how it made him smile and feel the aloha spirit. Please look down on us and my daughters and I will dance Somewhere over the Rainbow for you...here's to you Sir...everytime we see a rainbow, we will always have a smile in our hearts...Sally you are beautiful and you have a beautiful family...when you are feeling down and out, always remember the true Aloha Spirit...when you hear a beautiful Hawaiian song, receive a lei, give a lei, a hug, blow a kiss or even say hello to a stranger...That is your beautiful husband reminding you that life is truly beautiful and he is blessed to have you as his Hawaiian Princess...A hui hou (until we meet again) Sir...please watch over us and brighten our days with a beautiful rainbow...
Our hearts were so saddened when we heard about Larry. We had the pleasure of meeting Larry and Sally just a few years ago. All I can say is how blessed we were to meet such an outstanding couple. We thank you Larry for all you did for the Lakewood community. You will be so missed.

I first met Larry when he was a senior at Kubasaki HS in Okinawa and he was dating Sally the daughter of Colonel Lou Clancy. He later was the Military Police Brigade Commander for the US Army Pacific in Hawaii and was very popular and liked by everybody. In retirement he was recalled to active duty to serve his country once again in Afghanistan. His father was an Air Force Major General. Larry Sauners is a true American hero whose untimely death is a tremendous loss to our country and his family. ON behalf of the Military Police Corps and my family we send condolences to his family.
