James Johnson
James Kenyon Johnson was born on May 15, 1924 in Newburg, NY. Jim passed away on August 18, 2012. He was preceded in death by wife Mary, brother Carl Johnson, and stepson David Berman. He leaves behind wife Irene, daughter Gloria Kuhnke, sons Bruce (wife Sherrie), Paul (wife Pamela), Michael (wife Roberta) Johnson, stepsons Jeff Berman (wife Susan), Bill Berman (wife Debbie), 3 granddaughters, 1 step-granddaughter, 1 grandson, 1 great-grandson, several nephews, brothers Phillip (wife Carla), and Raymond (wife Stella) Johnson.
Jim graduated with honors from the University of Arkansas in electrical engineering in 1945. He worked for Kaiser Aluminum in both Louisiana and here in Tacoma. He retired in 1972. He also served briefly with the Navy in 1943.
JK was active with Tacoma Rifle & Pistol Club, Tacoma Sportsmen's Club, Capital City Gun Club and Cascade Mountain Men. He was also active with the muzzleloaders and mountain men era re-enactments. JK was also active with Washingtonians for Wildlife & Pierce County Sportsmen's Council. Jim was named Sportsman of the Year in 1993. He also worked with Department of Wildlife and Fish Commission on numerous issues.
In recent years he became active in the Olympia, Puyallup and Lakebay Fuschia clubs. He won several blue ribbons as well as a -Å"Best of Show- with a very lovely Gartenmeister plant. He was also known in the plant world as the -Å"garlic man.-
He will be missed by many friends and family.
Memorial donations may be made in Jim's name to your favorite charities. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 25, 2012 in the Mountain View Garden Chapel.
