James Frederick Honeycutt's Obituary
James Frederick Honeycutt Age 93, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 30, 2014 at the Tacoma Lutheran Home. His loving wife Mabel was with him when he passed. Fred was born February 4, 1921 on a farm near Fargo, North Dakota, the oldest child and only son of Robert and Mamie (Cox) Honeycutt. He lived in North Dakota and later Chicago during his childhood years, and then moved with his mother and sister Ruth to Tacoma, where he attended Stadium High School and later trained as a master machinist. In 1947 he married Virginia Dieter and started a family, eventually having three children. By 1953 he had moved his family to Orange County, California, where he worked for many years as a machinist for Douglas Aircraft Co. in Long Beach and Hughes Aircraft in Fullerton, from which he eventually retired. With the death of his first wife in 1979, Fred returned to Tacoma, eventually marrying Mabel Brien, a childhood acquaintance from North Dakota. He was always a faithful father and provider for his family, and is survived by his wife Mabel Honeycutt, his son Michael Honeycutt (Dee Dee), his daughters Linda Honeycutt and Karen Jefferson (Jim), his granddaughters Michelle Sweet (Alan) and Rachel Honeycutt, his sister Ruth MacKenzie, nephew Ian MacKenzie, his stepchildren Bob Brien and Bonnie Jean Brien, and grandson Jarron Janski. Fred was active in the Lutheran Church and Life Center, even making visitations to retirement homes as part of a much-loved harmonica band. He had a love for reading, especially histories of the Old West, Native Americans, Biblical times, or explorers and hunters. He also had a passion for the outdoors, whether hiking, hunting, or camping. Most of all, he enjoyed the company and love of his family, who will miss him greatly until we are able to meet again. A private memorial gathering will be held and remembrances can be made in his name to The Tacoma Rescue Mission and The Gideons.
