James Grant Caswell's Obituary
James Caswell was born in Rochester, NY on September 20, 1937 and passed away December 26, 2005 at home. He was the son of James G. Caswell and Thelma Kershaw who preceded him in death, as did his brother David. He grew up in Vancouver, WA.He is survived by his wife Carol Caswell, sons Martin Caswell (Laurie) of Anchorage, AK, Trevor Caswell (Jolene) of Bend, OR, and Daniel Caswell (Stacey); six grandchildren, brother, Robert Caswell of Vancouver, WA; nieces and nephews.Jim was a graduate of the University of Portland, and received an MBA from Southern Illinois University. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force in the Vietnam War and retired as a Major. He was stationed at McGuire AFB, NJ; Hill AFB, Utah; Alconbury RAFB, England; and McChord AFB. During his Air Force years he flew around the world as a navigator in C-141s and other military aircraft. He received combat pay for five years during the Vietnam War.Prior to entering the regular Air Force he served in the Oregon Air National Guard and the Washington Air Force Reserve, during which times he worked for the U.S. Forest Service on the Williamette and Mt. Baker National Forests, and in civilian personnel at Ft. Lewis.Jim fought a long and difficult battle with diabetes on his own terms. He enjoyed competitive games of all sorts, especially bridge and golf. He remained young at heart and was known for his ability to find fun and interesting activities for family and friends whenever he was present.Memorials in Jim's name may be made to the Diabetes Association of Washington State, 1-800-628-8808.A military service with full honors will be held 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at Tahoma National Cemetery.
