James R Fleming's Obituary
James R. Fleming was born on February 22, 1922 in Hulbert, OK, and passed away on April 25, 2017 in Tacoma, WA.
He is preceded in death by his wife Betty of 47 years in 2002 and granddaughter Rachel Bartlett in 1988.
He leaves three daughters, Denise Lind (John), Darlene Bartlett, and Debbie Byrne (Don); four grandchildren, Michael Bartlett, Jennifer Laughlin (LJ), Joann Stocking, and Angela Fleming; three great-grandchildren, Haley Jenkins (Garrett), Hunter Laughlin and Titus Laughlin and many nieces and nephews.
The Army brought Jim to Ft. Lewis in the late 40’s. He played the guitar and fiddle with local country western bands claiming that once he even played with Buck Owens. He often played the guitar for his girls when they were young.
Jim went to work at St. Regis Paper Company in June of 1949, retiring in June of 1984.
Farming was in his blood. He loved taking care of the newborn calves or cutting, raking, and baling hay. He was so happy when his niece Joann and husband Tim bought the farm in Graham.
The last five years Jim has lived at Sanders Estates in Tacoma. The family wants to thank them for their loving care of him.
Jim will be buried next to Betty at Mt. View Memorial Park, Lakewood, WA.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Mt. View Celebration of Life Building, Willow Room.
