James F. Early's Obituary
Dr. James F. Early, born at Albany, NY in 1929, died on July 4, 2012.
Dr. Early, a general primary care internist, practiced in the Lakewood area for 35 years before his retirement in 1997.
His childhood years were spent in Hudson, NY. He attended Christian Brothers Academy (Albany), St. Michael's College (Vermont), Albany Medical College, and took his post graduate medical specialty training at Philadelphia General Hospital and the Bronx Veterans Hospital. His specialty training was preceded by two years' service in the USAF as a flight surgeon in Japan.
He and his wife Lila migrated to the Northwest immediately after their marriage, upon completion of his training to hopefully find opportunity and ability to participate in the "Northwest Lifestyle." Two sons, Patrick and David, completed their family soon thereafter.
They are members of St. Frances Cabrini Parish in Lakewood. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. During his practice years Dr. Early served on various committees and boards, and was a member of many medical organizations and Lakewood Rotary. He particularly enjoyed the practice of primary care medicine, his family, his patients, boating and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his father (Lawrence), mother (Julia), Gertrude Haggerty (a caretaker in his childhood after his mother's death), sister (Elizabeth), brother (Lawrence), and stepmother (Margaret). His son Patrick is assumed deceased. He is survived by his wife Lila, son David (Kimberley), granddaughter Sarah, and grandson Andrew.
