James Byron MeadeJune 28, 1931 Â- Jan 25, 2004James B. Meade, 72, of Tacoma died Sunday at Tacoma General Hospital.He was born in Tacoma to Harvey W. and Hazel E. (Marshall) Meade.He enlisted in the Navy in 1948 and served on the USS Ticonderoga in the Refrigeration Maintenance Unit. James also spent time in the Merchant Marines keeping refrigeration and air conditioning units working properly. After his discharge, he continued this work at Fort Lewis until he retired in 1987.James was active in the Boy Scouts of America, both as a youth and an adult where he spent 20 years with Troop # 74 in Tacoma, including time as Scoutmaster. He was also affiliated with Gove Lodge # 230 as a 32o Mason and was a Rainbow Dad for his niece in 1971.On October 28, 1977 he married Dorothy Gourley in Tacoma, WA. Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, step-children Bob (Merna) Minnitti of Port Orchard, WA, Linda (Doug) Johnson of Lake Havasu, AZ; grandchildren, Melanie, Robbie, and Nicole (Cary), Tricia, and Jeff, great grandchildren, Alyssah, Ashley, and Zane; sisters, Bonnie Anderson, Dona (Bruce) Galloway, and Sheila Bishop, Richmond, CA. Many nieces, nephews and relatives will also miss him.A memorial service will be held Monday, Feb 2nd, at 2 p.m. in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd, Tacoma, WA.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Tacoma Chapter, 4802 So. 19th St., Tacoma WA, 98405
