James Melvin Brooke's Obituary
According to the Tacoma News Tribune birth announcement, “the little fellow” was born to Kurt and Ruth as James Melvin Brooke. He was born in Tacoma, Washington and passed away on October 21, 2016 at the age of 62 surrounded by his family. He graduated from Stadium High School, attended WSU and was a member of the TKE Fraternity. Jim left behind his wife of 34 years Kathy, his sons Justin (Chrissy) and Matthew (Amy), his 6 grandchildren (Pearl, Ryan, Cooper, Landon, Piper and Declan), his siblings Lee (Claudia) and Phyllis Bergstrom, numerous other family members and countless friends.
His love and dedications for his family was shown in his life daily. He spent many years coaching kids in basketball, baseball, soccer and football. He was a mentor to young boys, who because of his influence became incredible men. When not coaching, he continued supporting his boys at sporting events from the sidelines, and as his boys grew older, his presence at his grandchildren’s events consumed his Saturday mornings.
His involvement in sports began early and he participated in all youth activities. Later in life, he continued his love of sports by attending and watching the Seattle Seahawks, a season ticket holder of the Seattle Sounders, a diehard Cougar fan and an occasional Husky fan. (Go Pac-12).
Jim was known for being a hard worker, a loving husband, a devoted father, a “happy pappy” and a caring friend. He was recognized as the Class of ’73 Friendliest. His friendly personality was infectious. The North-end of Tacoma was his stomping ground and there was not a place he could go where he was not recognized.
With Jim’s passing, a giant hole has been left in the hearts of many. Please fill that hole with memories of friendship, a few laughs, a couple jokes and numerous kisses. Realize just how fortunate we were to have crossed paths with such an incredible and loving man.
A star has been named in Jim’s remembrance so that he can continue to shine and fill our hearts.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, November 5 at 4pm in the Connelly Campus Center at Bellarmine Preparatory School in Tacoma. James will be laid to rest at Mountain View Memorial Park in Lakewood.
