James BarrettÂ"Death before DishonorÂ"A friend to everyone that knew him, Jim passed away Sept 27, 2002 at the age of 90 from complications of cancer.Jim was born Oct 17, 1911 in Bridgeport, Illinois. He grew up playing many sports, and entered the Army. There he served for 30 years, 18 of which were overseas, including World War II and the Korean Battalion War. He retired as a Sergeant Major and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received. If there was one thing you could count on, it was his Â"earlinessÂ". If you told him to be somewhere at a given time, he would be there an hour early.Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and May, brother Jack and sister Lucille. Survivors included his wife, Edith; son Spencer and his wife Gayle; daughter Sylvia and her husband Darri; daughter Susan; and six grandsons.A special thank-you is given to Madigan Hospital and to the caring people at Lakewood Healthcare Center for their excellent treatment of Jim through his last days. Graveside services will be held 10:30 Wed. Oct 2, 02 at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. A reception will be held at Mt. View Funeral Home in the Celebration of Life Center at 12:30 p.m. following the Graveside at Tahoma.
