Jack Trueit's Obituary
SMSgt. Jacques (Jack) Trueit 5/4/1935 - 10/20/2018 Jack was born in Hollis, NY, and grew up in Valley Stream on Long Island, NY. His early years were tragically marred by the death of his mother, an event that haunted him for the rest of his days. In high school he worked at the school radio station, which fostered a life-long love of Big Band music. In the summers he worked with a local wrecking company. He graduated a year early from high school, and enlisted in the Army at 17. He arrived in Korea at the tail end of the Korean Conflict, and served as a cryptologist for the ASA. After returning home, he left the Army and enlisted in the Air Force. His logistical communication skills were again highly prized. He reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Anne, while home on leave, and they were married in 1956. They began their life together in Presque Isle, ME, living on a potato farm. They traveled through life together for the next 45 years, having two children, William (Trudi) Trueit and Jennifer Trueit. He took great pride in his children and selflessly supported them with an unwavering devotion. After leaving the military in 1975, he began his work with the Post Office. He left the Post Office in 1998 to care for his wife full-time. After her death in 2001 he enjoyed traveling throughout the world, and was able to check off numerous destinations on his bucket list. The family would like to thank Dr. John Rowland for his amazing care. Dad was able to remain at home up until the very last week of his life, even while suffering with lung cancer. We will miss Dad's enormous spirit, his wide smile, his politically incorrect quick wit, his constant devotion, his amazing work ethic, and his sheer determination to persevere. Burial services will be held at a later date.
