Jack G. Skanes' Obituary
Jack Skanes, 73, died at his home Saturday, March 12, 2005. Jack is survived by Dolores, his wife of 54 wonderful years; his sons, Randy, Patrick and Douglas; grandchildren Elizabeth and TreÂ' Dauenhauer, Theresa Rose Skanes, and Mike and Niles Harris. He also left behind his twin brother Gene and younger brother George, a large family with many close nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.For more than 50 years, Jack served Tacoma-Pierce County as a skilled carpenter, apprenticeship trainer, union leader, school advisor and college trustee. He helped to build over 100 structures in the Tacoma-Pierce County area, including his home in Puyallup. According to Jack, one of his biggest achievements was to become the CarpenterÂ's Union business representative. Over the years, JackÂ's union activities include; the Recording Secretary for the WA State Council of Carpenters and Pacific Coast Metal Trades, South & West Puget Sound/Grays Harbor District Council of Carpenters, and Capitol District Joint Appropriations Committee. He fulfilled those duties for 12 years, retiring in 1994. In 1995, the Governor appointed Jack to serve as a Trustee for Bates Technical College. On October 14, 2004, Jack was honored for his lifetime commitment to Bates Technical College and the community, and the Tacoma Mayor declared this day as Â"Jack Skanes DayÂ".In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Jack Skanes Bates Scholarship Foundation (253-680-7105).A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 18, 2005 in the Mt. View Valley Chapel.
