Jack J. Avril's Obituary
Jack Avril passed away on July 30, 2021. He was proceeded in death by his wife Janice of 61 years. He is survived by his children Sue Merritt (Mike), Mike Avril (Danielle) and Margaret Avril-Snyder, three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Jack was born on January 17, 1932 in Tacoma, Washington. He grew up on American Lake where he eventually met his wife when he rowed his boat by the Veteran’s Hospital where she was working as a nurse.
Jack graduated from Clover Park High School where he played various sports. He remained in touch with several of his classmates and the “ancient warriors” could be found meeting for breakfast or rooting from the stands. He also helped plan reunions for the class of 1950.
After high school, Jack entered the Air Force, serving for four years and was stationed in Germany. He then attended the University of Washington, graduating with a bachelor degree in ceramic engineering. Over the years, he worked for Lockheed Missiles and other electronic and manufacturing companies. Jack ultimately became a fire and explosive investigator, forming his own company.
Jack was active in church, was an avid Husky fan and was passionate about baseball, playing softball into his later years. He enjoyed camping with his family, was always tinkering and working on projects and loved dogs. He was very involved in the community, even helping with the City of Lakewood incorporation. He served on the Historical Society and with Lakewood United.
