Jim is a shining example of what it means to be a citizen. President Kennedy could well have had Jim in mind during his inaugural speech when he said "Ask not...." Many a legislative session day for me began, and often ended, with a conversation with Jim, during which I was called upon to put crypic clues together to figure out what was really going on under the dome. Always a gentleman and a friend forever. To all those who knew Jim and to those who loved him, I offer my heartfelt condolences.

Condolence to the Bricker family. Jim embodied that lovely combination of strength and kindness. He was the behind the scenes action for Governor Gardner's Early Childhood education and assistance program. A man who made a difference wherever he engaged.

For just about 25 years the Colonel and I were running buddies. We ran 10K's, half-marathons and full marathons from Portland to Victoria. It was always a challenge to stay with him. At times we ran at a "talking pace" and I would always be the receiver of
great advice in both my working life, as well as, my personal life. Of course, the Marine Corps was always a topic of conversation. When that conversatrion came up I knew I was in trouble, as he always stood a little taller, and picked up the pace!

After our running day's, It was always a pleasure to join him in the hot tub at his
second home on Whidbey Island.

He will be missed.

I send our condolences to the Bricker family and friends.

Jim was a man of true character who supported those around him in any way he could. He helped me learn a great deal about the politics of Olympia. Our office was able to produce and share our state's stories because of Jim's steadfast encouragement and generosity. We will miss him.

Jim and I were in the reserve unit at Sand Point from the late 60's until we both retired. He was always a true gentleman! I enjoyed serving with Jim and learned a lot from him. I enjoyed working with him in the USMC SUPPORT GROUP also. He will be truly missed!

Condolences to the Bricker family.
My father, Richard (Dick) Best was in the Marine's with Jim and they stayed true friends to the end. Jim had just attended dads service at Tahoma National Cemetery In July and was so helpful with that process and wanted to make sure all was perfect and it was.
We did not know he had fallen ill, but knowing Jim, he wanted it that way.
Rest in peace Jim. You will be missed!
