Ivan E. Frederick's Obituary
Sargeant First Class, Ivan “Fred” Ellis Frederick, 84, passed away after a short, but courageous battle with cancer at the VA Hospital in Seattle on November 19, 2017. A veteran of the war in Vietnam he was an auto mechanics instructor for the US Army and retired after 22 years of military service at Fort Lewis
SFC Frederick was born on March 6, 1933 in Yuma County, CO to John and Eva Frederick, where he farmed with his parents and grandparents. In 1953, he joined the armed forces and was deployed to Germany after basic training where he served the majority of his military career and met the love of his life, Sonja Noll, where the story began.
Ivan is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Sonja. He is survived by his three children Tina Dombrowsky and spouse Willi, Andy Frederick and spouse Lorree, Sonja Cannistra and spouse Nick. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Angela, Stephanie, Lisa, Sarah, Kristin, Kimberly, Shaun, and Nevin. He also has five great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Jordan, Mackenzie, Kendall, Briana and three great-great-grandchildren AJ, Payton, and Levi.
Burial amongst family and friends will be at 10-AM Wednesday, November 29 at New Tacoma Cemetery in University Place, WA. Immediately following, at 1-PM a Memorial Service will be officiated by Pastor Chuck Hushek at Trinity Church in Tacoma. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Trinity Church of Tacoma, 4041 Tacoma Mall Blvd, Tacoma, WA 98409.
