Irene Butler's Obituary
Irene Butler died December 16, 2004 at The Franciscan Care Center of Tacoma. She was born to Michael and Ida Borell in Grand Forks, B.C. Canada, attended primary school in Spokane and graduated in the 1934 Lincoln High School class in Tacoma, WA. After several jobs during World War II, she became a secretary for the U.S. Geological Survey and later retired from the Federal Housing Administration. She was active in her local AARP Chapter and served as treasurer of that organization for many years.As a teenager, Irene played the violin in her high school orchestra as well as in the G Street Assembly of God orchestra. She was proud of her more than 75-year church membership, which continued at the Assembly of God - Life Center in Tacoma. She enjoyed assisting with church banquets and wedding receptions. She was preceded in death by her brother August Borell, her sister Rose Marie Dinsmore, and her husbands, Arnold Stang and Harold Butler. She is survived by her niece Jacqueline Stegner and her brother-in-law Raymond Dinsmore both of Samish Island, WA.Very special thanks to Arlene and members of the Don Tresness family for their devoted care and assistance as extended family for almost fifty years. Thank you to the caregivers and staff of the Franciscan Care Center of Tacoma and to the Franciscan Hospice team for your compassion and support.Graveside services will be held at 11:30am Tuesday, December 21st, at Mountain View Cemetery followed by a luncheon where family and friends are invited to bring memories to share in celebration of Irene's life.Irene spent tireless hours visiting, shopping and doing errands for shut-in friends.
