Ione Eastby's Obituary
Ione Eastby was born on March 3, 1924 in McHenry, North Dakota. She was the only child of Helmer and Susie Hanson. The Lord called Ione home on May 4, 2010 after serious complications following surgery performed on March 9. Ione graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN with a Bachelor's Degree in Education, and minor degrees in English and Business. She also met Franklin Lane Eastby at Concordia, and they married on July 16, 1957. Ione also went on to earn a Masters Degree in Psychology at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. Ione spent her entire professional life teaching and counseling students. She taught Business and English at the University of Minnesota (Morris), North Dakota State University (Wahpeton), and Franklin Pierce High School (Tacoma, WA). Ione transitioned from teaching to counseling at Washington High School (Tacoma, WA) when it opened in 1971, and eventually became the guidance director. She was a tireless, unselfish, generous public servant -- dedicated to always helping her students achieve their greatest potential in school and in life. Ione was a loving wife and mother, and a dedicated, faithful servant of God and the Lutheran Church. She always put the Lord and her family above herself, and she will be greatly missed by all.
Ione is survived by her two sons, Forrest (Newport Beach, CA) and Jeff (Auburn, WA). Ione was also blessed to be mother-in-law to Jeff's wife, Marilyn, and a very proud grandmother of their two wonderful boys, Erik Lane and Jake Alan.
A Memorial Service in Ione's honor will be held on Saturday, May 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 8211 112th St SW, Lakewood, WA. A private family committal ceremony will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband Lane, who passed away in April, 2005. Memorial contributions may be made in Ione's name to Christ Lutheran Church, or to a charity of your choice.
