Ion Lozovanu's Obituary
Ion Lozovanu
June 29, 1936-Feb. 15, 2014
Ion Lozovanu was born on June 29, 1936 in the village of Pitushca, Moldova, to Teodosie and Nina Lozovanu. He died on Feb. 15, 2014 in Tacoma after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Ion and his wife, Victoria, moved to the Key Peninsula in 2004 to live with their daughter and her family. His first order of business was to manually dig about a fifth of an acre for a garden and to build a fence from tree twigs and stumps with his hands.
The oldest in the family of 10 children, Ion raised his siblings since age 18 after their mother’s death. He had worked as a woodworking and carpentry teacher and later as a produce store manager and self-employed entrepreneur, known for his homemade wines and handyman work. A talented carpenter, he could build both functional and beautiful objects with hand tools and recycled wood.
He lived a simple life rooted in hard work and honesty. For as long as he was physically able, Ion always found new gardening and home projects. He loved to work with his hands and he loved working on his land, and was very ingenious with creative use of materials.
He will be remembered as a kind, gentle and solid person who was always ready to help.
Ion Lozovanu is survived by his wife, Victoria, of Tacoma; brothers Iacob, Constantin and Tudor of Moldova; sisters Maria and Ekaterina of Moldova; daughters Marina Bicov (Igori) of Moldova and Rodika Tollefson (Darrin) of Key Peninsula; grandsons Alex, Nick and Kristian of Key Peninsula; granddaughters Iulea and Nastea of Moldova, numerous sisters- and brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins and other family members “back home.” He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Feb. 19 at Mountain View Funeral Home Memorial Park in Lakewood, followed by a graveyard service on Feb. 20.
Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. Remembrances may be shared at www.mountainviewtacoma.com.
