Ingrid Fynboe's Obituary
Ingrid Emelie Martinson Fynboe was born to Norwegian immigrant parents, Peter Martinson and Bertha Hauge Martinson, on September 5, 1926 in St. Maries, Idaho. She died peacefully surrounded by family on November 30, 2021 in Tacoma, Washington and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Ingrid was baptized as an infant in a Lutheran Church in St. Maries, and when she was four years old, her family moved to Potlatch, Idaho where she lived until graduating from Potlatch High School in 1944. Her family was active in Grace Lutheran Church where she attended Sunday School, was confirmed, sang in the choir, and played the pump organ for worship on Sunday mornings.
After graduation from high school, Ingrid travelled to Tacoma by bus to attend the pre nursing program at Pacific Lutheran College (PLC). Ingrid dreamed of travelling to distant lands as a missionary nurse during her high school years. However, on the first day of arriving at PLC, she met a “tall handsome fellow”, Carl Fynboe, at a local college hangout. He went home and told his parents he had met the girl he was going to marry. After her first year at PLC Ingrid transferred into the Nurses Corps at Emmanuel Lutheran Hospital in Portland, Oregon. A year later, Ingrid returned to Tacoma and worked in a lab for local doctors. On June 7, 1947, Ingrid married Carl at Trinity Lutheran Church and they celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Ingrid and Carl moved to Lakewood where Carl worked as a teacher, vice principal and principal. Ingrid and Carl were Charter Members of Christ Lutheran Church where Ingrid was very active singing in the choir, attending women’s circle, teaching Sunday School, helping with Altar Guild, and cooking and baking for church functions. Ingrid embraced the responsibility on the home front for their three children, Karen, Kathy, and Chris. Ingrid wrote, “my proudest accomplishments were that I was able to be home with you kids to fix all your meals, wash and iron your clothes, to keep an orderly home, and be a good wife to a very busy husband.” Their home in Lakewood was the center of all kinds of activities and guests; locally, nationally, and from around the world, and they continued to entertain family and friends when they built a home on Fox Island. There was always a bed and a seat at the table at their home.
Ingrid was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Bertha Martinson, and her husband, Carl Fynboe. She leaves behind children: Karen Fynboe (Bill), Kathy Buser (Scott), Chris Fynboe (Karie); grandchildren: Kirsten Stokes (Teddy), Andrea Moran (Bryan), James Howe (Mary), Nick Buser, Katie Van (Reborn), Alexis Fynboe Hamilton (Tyler), Jonathan Duncan (Erika); great grandchildren: Justice, Selah, Jude, Jimmy, Hallie, Molly, Archer Ingrid, Liam, Pressli.
Ingrid’s memorial service will be at Christ Lutheran Church in Lakewood, WA on December 27, 2021, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers: memorials can be made to Christ Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
