Imogene Eustella Kady's Obituary
Imogene (Jean) Eustella Kady passed away at her home on July 5, 2023, in Kingston, Washington, surrounded by many of her family.
Jean was born April 29, 1934, in Lincoln City, Nebraska, to Emma Irene and Kermit Buchanan. Her middle name was borrowed from Eustella, a Catholic nurse who assisted in Imogene’s birth. Eustella’s intervention helped to save mother and daughter both.
Jean loved life on the farm climbing haystacks, feeding chickens (Jezebel was her favorite pet chicken.), shucking corn, tending to horses, and milking cows. At eight years of age, she moved with her parents to Tacoma, Washington. Jean later graduated from Stadium High School in 1952.
Her lifetime in Tacoma included work in a candy store, service as a short-term volunteer in the USO at 17 years of age, washing dishes and preparing food trays at Doctor’s Hospital in Tacoma, and providing care for an aged lady while earning money to buy her honeymoon dress.
After completing two years of beautician school, Jean devoted time as a beautician in Tacoma before opening her own beauty shop in Kingston, Washington. The shop was appropriately named Jean’s Personal Touch.
Jean and her husband, Frank, traveled during their retirement years (often using their RV) to various locations in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Montana.
Interests and hobbies consisted of the collection of owl and Hummel figurines, Betty Boop dolls, dishes, and figurines. Her embroidery work skill is depicted in an owl tapestry. Most notable are Jean’s landscapes displaying exceptional detail in her drawings of ink and pencil. Other works of art include watercolor and chalk creations.
Jean loved to sing with her husband, contributing harmony to this husband-wife country western duet.
She was a devoted wife and beloved mother who truly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her grandson David, and is survived by her husband of 70 years, Frank Kady, Sr. Other family members include three sons and their spouses (Frank Jr. and Martha; Kenneth and Heidi; Michael and Joan), five grandchildren ranging in age from 27 to 45 years of age, and eleven great-grandchildren.
A service celebrating Jean’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Mountainview Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA 98499.
