Howard K. Muir's Obituary
Howard Kenneth Muir born March 27, 1919 in Calgary, Alberta, to Edgar and Versa Muir, passed away September 26, 2004, at his home in Milton, WA. He grew up on the Palouse in the Asotin area. When the U.S. entered the war, he joined the Marines. A member of the 5th Marine Division, he served valiantly in WWII, where he fought on Iwo Jima (the first wave), and received a purple heart. In 1940 he married his sweetheart Marie, with whom he spent the next 63 years. Most of their married life was spent in Tacoma, where they raised five kids and spoiled 14 grandkids. He attended First Baptist Church, and was involved with the Masonic Lodge, Steilacoom #2, a 32nd degree Mason. A welder by trade, he worked on many of the hydro-electric dam projects in the Northwest, and then retired from U.S. Oil in 1984. His retirement, although plagued with heart problems and diabetes, brought trips across the States and into Canada. While at home he made sure his birds and squirrel pals were always fed. He lived long enough to see his first great-grandchild born in August, and to spend the final days with his faithful Â"babyÂ", Genji. Although he is greatly missed, we know heÂ's happiest back with his sweetheart Marie, and his sister Margy, playing Triominos, with Â"babyÂ" at his feet. He is survived by all of his kids, an older sister, Max Coulter, and two younger brothers, Carl and Earl Muir. In lieu of flowers, Howard would have appreciated donations to charities or scholarships. Services are to be held in the Mt. View Garden Chapel, Tacoma, on Saturday, October 2, 2004 at 9 am.Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252
