Horace Theodore Thomas Dorsey's Obituary
1st SGT Horace Theodore Thomas Dorsey Sept. 4, 1923 ~ May 16, 2008 Horace (Ted) was born in New London, Maryland. He joined the Army and fought in World War II in Normandy. He was awarded the Silver and Bronze Stars. He served his country honorably and performed his duties faithfully. After retiring from the army in Ft. Lewis in 1963, our Dad made his home in Lakewood, WA where he also continued working for the VA hospital before he retired to work as a carpenter and handyman for his military comrades that he knew during his service in the military. Our Dad loved the outdoors. During his free time he liked to fish and hunt. If he had it his way, he would have built a small cabin in the woods to live with nature. Our Dad loved to work and he continued to work until he was about 80 years old, before it became too hard for him to continue to work. When he could no longer work, he spent a lot of time at Ft. Steilacoom Park bird watching, which then became his passion. After a long battle with cancer. our Dad passed away peacefully at home with his family. We will always miss his stubbornness (as Aunt Brownie says, "he's stubborn as a mule"). His love for his brothers and sisters, and his love for his children and grandchildren were unconditional. We will all miss him so very dearly. Our Dad has gone to be with the Lord, his mother Carrie, his father Norman, a baby granddaughter Crystle, his wife Rosita, his son Douglas and his brothers Norman, Charles and Richard. He is survived by his sons Herb (Rachel) Dorsey, Teddy Dew, both of WA, his daughter Rosita Stewart of MD, his sisters Marguerite (Brownie) Dorsey of LV, and Elsie Weedon of NJ, his brothers Lester Dorsey of NJ, Herbert Dorsey of NJ, Robert Dorsey of MD, and Maurice Dorsey of PA, and his grandchildren Herbert, Taasha, Jordan, Joseph, Kaly, Isaiah, Dominique, Colette, Damien, and Cameron. A viewing will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home on Thursday, May 22nd, from 2-9pm and the funeral service will be on Friday, May 23rd at 2pm in the Garden Chapel, with a reception immediately following at Lakewview Congregational Church in Lakewood.
