Ho Chung Kim's Obituary
Ho Chung Kim lost her battle with cancer on Novemeber 13, 2022 at the age of 93.
Ho Chung was born in South Korea on August 5, 1929. She was the oldest of three children, but the last of her siblings to be called to Heaven.
Her time in Korea made her very strong willed and independent. She lived in a time where women were not valued or given the same opportunities as men. She married at the age of eighteen and gave birth to six children. She became a single mother when her husband passed away after contracting an illness during the Vietnam War. Ho Chung did everything she could to provide for her children. She spent time making food and goods and sold them on the streets to provide an income for her family. Ho Chung was so incredibly hard working and always found a way to get by.
She came to the United States in the late 1980s with her daughter, Myong Cha. She resided in Clallam Bay, WA with her daughter, son in law, and grand-daughter. As happy as she was to be with family, she missed her Korean culture. She ended up visiting her cousin in Philadelphia, PA and fell in love with the large Korean presence. She spent the next 18 years in Philadelphia around family and helped raise her grandchilden.
One of her greatest passions in life was spreading the Word of God. She spent many years as a deacon at the Philadelphia Korean Baptist Church. As she got older and her health went downhill, she moved back to Washington with her daughter. When she moved back to Washington, she was one of the few elders at Tacoma First Baptist Church.
Ho Chung endured many headaches and suffering throughout her life. She had to live though the death of four of her children. The one thing that breathed new life into her was her grandchildren and great-grandchilden. She lit up at the sight of them.
Towards the end, her life was fulfilled with the love of God and the love of her family. Her eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren now carry on her legacy. We all know that by the grace of God, she is in Heaven watching over us all. She passed away peacefully with her family right by her side, with the most love God has to offer.
She is deeply loved and will dearly be missed. Ho Chung is survived by her children, Myong Cha and Se Yun. She leaves behind her grandchilden, William, Wan Kyung, Christina, Courteney, Nolan, Esther, Grady, and Richard. As well as her great-grandchildren, Seo Hyun, Isaac, Angela, Jacob, Angelia, Isaiah, Aria, Glenn, Mila, Vivienne, Sean, Remy, and Violet.
Ho Chung's funeral will be held at Mountain View Cemetery on Wednesday, November 30th at 11 A.M. in the Garden Chapel, followed by a graveside service.
