Hildred Swearingen's Obituary
Hildred Ione Rowland was born on February 9, 1919 in Macaskill, Arkansas. She passed over to life beyond on December 6, 2018 in Puyallup, Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband Wade. She is survived by her son, Jimmy Bentley, and his wife Lenore, of Deltona, Florida; her daughter, Nelda Myatt, and her husband Scott, of Garland, Texas; and her daughter Lanita Baker, and her husband Dennis, of Spanaway, Washington. She left behind seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. Hildred was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ for most of her life.
She spent most of her early life in Hempstead County, Arkansas. During the war, she moved to Little Rock and worked in a factory that supported the war effort. After the war she met and married Wade Swearingen and they lived in Shreveport, LA. In the Mid 1960’s, the family moved to the Pacific Northwest and settled in Hood River, OR, where Hildred and Wade raised their family.
Family, faith and friends were important to her. She was a committed mother, a dedicated member of Hood River church of Christ and a loyal friend.
Service to her community included volunteering for Meals on Wheels, being a foster parent, volunteering in the school district and numerous supports to her congregation. She also participated in fund-raising for Columbia Christian College in Portland, OR.
She spent her final years as a loving Grandma, living near her grandchildren in Dallas, TX and in the Tacoma area.
Celebration of Life Service honoring Hildred will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Lakeview Church of Christ in Tacoma, Washington
