Herta L. Roberts' Obituary
Herta L. Roberts was born January 15th 1920 in Zurich Switzerland to Albert and Rosa Ley. In 1927 her family immigrated to the US. Her family was placed in Morton Washington by the government because of her fathers skills. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938 with honors. When she was in high school she sang on the radio at KVI. Taking requests over the phone and then singing live. She graduated from Racine Business School and immediately went into the workforce. She was the first female teller at the National Bank of Washington in downtown Tacoma. She retired from the bank 40 years later. She was also a runway model during this time for some of the local department stores. She met Tex Roberts at the bank, he was a war pilot. When he returned from the war they immediately got married 15 of August 1945, VJ Day. After 7 years of marriage, Herta gave birth to J. F. Roberts on August 15, 1952. Tex retired from the service at McChord AFB. He used his retirement departure bonus to buy a house on American Lake at the Lakeside Country Club in 1961. This is where some great memories were formed. Herta was called mom by many of J’s friends because she always had food in the house, her ability to look past their mistakes and loving everyone for who they were not what they did. She volunteered much of her time with St. Claire Hospital, Orthopedic Guild, Swiss Hall, Daffodil Princesses and many other community organizations. In her spare time, she taught young women the graces of society, proper make up, how to dress and how to gain self confidence by loving yourself first.
Tex passed in 1986 and Herta lived in the American Lake home for a while until it just wasn’t safe. She was moved to assisted living where she stayed until she passed.
She will be missed by all that crossed her path. Her greatest loves were her family, friends and anyone that needed a helping hand. A lot of wonderful words have been used to describe her and how she lived her life but the most important of all was mama. Until we meet again. We all love you. You will always be in our hearts.
Herta is survived by her son, J.F. Roberts and his wife Christa. Her grandchildren Amy Morris, Angela Roberts Klein and T.J. Roberts. Her great grandchildren A.J. Orozco, Chloe Morris and Dylan Morris. Her great great grandchild Isabella Orozco.
