Herman LeRoy Thompson's Obituary
Herman Leroy "Pete" Thompson
Herman Leroy (Pete) Thompson Pete was born on December 23, 1932 in Jerseyville, Ill. At the age of 17, with his parents' consent, he joined the U.S. Army. He was eventually stationed with the occupying U.S. forces in Salzburg, Austria. It was while he was in Austria that he met the love of his life, Ottilie Maier. They met in a café. They flirted, they fell in love, they married and raised five beautiful children. Pete served in Korea in the early 1950's, where he saw combat. He also served two tours in Vietnam. During his first tour he was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. Pete was loved, honored, and respected by all who knew him. He was an honorable, brave, decent man, a loving husband, and a caring parent. All of us who knew and loved him will miss him terribly. He now joins his son David in heaven. He is survived by his wife Ottilie (Tillie), daughter Linda (Randy), and sons Bernhard (Liza), Peter (Kit), and Michael (Kim), seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, brother Donald (Evelyn), sisters Mary and Cecile (Jim), and numerous nephews and nieces. Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 3, 2011, 11 a.m., at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 10508 112th St. S.W., Lakewood, WA. Reception to follow, 12:30-2 p.m., at Burs Restaurant, 6151 Steilacoom Blvd. S.W., Lakewood. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
