Herman M Hoffman's Obituary
On July 20, 2013 Herm passed away at the age of 86 surrounded by his loving family. Herm was born on February 7, 1927 to John and Freda Hoffman, in Greeley Colorado. They later moved to Tacoma where he resided for 78 years. He was the big brother to three sisters.
A life time of friendships began when he attended Stanley elementary, McCarver junior high and Lincoln high school. Those friendships continued through the years resulting in frequent lunches and many fond memories. Herman served in the merchant marines and was stationed on Catalina Island for a brief time. He got his start in Auto Glass at Tresnor and Sons, where he gained valuable experience. In 1960, he married his wife Bea. Together they established, owned and operated City Glass and Upholstery from 1964 until he sold and retired in 1988. During those 24 years in business, he made many life-long relationships with both customers and employees. Herm's love of the automobile spanned a lifetime, owning over 300 different makes and models. However his true passion was his Ford and Lincoln car collection. He enjoyed the many friendships created while showing and being a member of the Lincoln Continental Owners Club. The weekend prior to his passing, he won an award with his 1941 Ford at a local car show. He was involved in various lodges including the Elks and Lions. He was a well respected business man, car enthusiast and entrepreneur.
Dad was always generous with his love and knowledge to both family and friends. His family was everything to him. He enjoyed watching the grandkids grow and play in their many sports. He continued to have weekly lunches with his sisters, Dorothy, Beverly and Carolyn. Together, he and his wife, Bea, created many fond memories with family and friends at their lake property in Eastern WA. After their daughter Kim moved to California they purchased a home where they spent their winter months.
Herm is preceded in death by his wife, Bea, of 50 years, and his daughter Nancy 'Niki' Waterman. He is survived by his son Steven Hoffman (Sherry), daughter Kimberle Pollock (Frank), grandchildren Chad Waterman (Jody), Ryan Waterman, Taylor and Jenna Hoffman, Megan Pollock; great grandchildren Brandon and Aubrey Waterman. Dad was loved by many and will be missed by all.
