Herbert Samuel Lester's Obituary
Herbert Samuel Lester Â"Sam,Â" age 86, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2003 in Tacoma, Washington from complications related to AlzheimerÂ's disease. He is the beloved husband of Daphne L. Hall Lester and the father of B. Paul Roderick (Claudia). He has 3 grandsons, David Roderick (Ramona), Brian Roderick (Christina), and Allen Roderick (Tiffany); and 6 great-grandchildren, Madisen, Ethan, Garett, Brittan, Taylor, and Annika. Sam was born in North Carolina in 1917, and served in the Army in World War II. He was preceded in death by his father, A. William Lester; mother, Sallie Lester; and his brothers and sisters. Sam and Daphne were married in Alexandria, Virginia in 1968. Not long afterward, they moved to Northern California with SamÂ's employer United Airlines. After retiring from United in the late 1970Â's, Sam and Daphne moved to North Carolina. Several years later they moved back to California to Fairfield. In the early 1990Â's they moved to Olympia, Washington to be closer to family. A few years later they moved to Lakewood, Washington.Funeral services will be held at the Mt View Valley Chapel, Lakewood, Washington on Saturday November, 29, 2003 at 11 AM. All who knew and loved him are invited. A private family burial will take place at National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.The family would like to thank the staff at Manor Care for the care he received while there, and the members of the Lakewood ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for their love and support during his illness.
