Henry Zachow's Obituary
Henry, most often called Hank, was born in Tacoma 7-26-1919 and went to heaven on 8-2-2010. Born to Henry F. and Amelia, he was the youngest of six children. Hank was raised by his mother and siblings, as his father died before he was born. His sister recognized that he had musical talent and started him in piano lessons at an early age. At Stewart Jr. High he was the pianist for their various productions. After graduation from Lincoln, he became a pianist for dance bands. He decided to further his education and became a mechanical engineer for American Manufacturing Co. and other companies in Portland and San Mateo. Hank retired from Simpson in Vancouver, WA. An excellent pianist all his life, he recorded a program of big band music for public television in Portland and three professional CD's. Returning to Tacoma in 2008, he played the piano twice a week for his fellow residents in assisted living.
He is survived by his daughter Lois, grandchildren Jefferey, Brett (Deniece), Glenn, Lynn (Eric), and Deann (Brian), and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Bernice of 57 years, their baby son Henry Jr., his second wife Sheila of eight years, his daughter Donette, son-in-law Tony, one sister, and four brothers.
A funeral service will be held on Sat, Aug 7, 11:00, in the Mountain View Garden Chapel. Viewing is optional at the end of the service. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 3410 Sixth Ave, Tacoma, WA 98406, and note "The Henry Zachow Memorial Fund."
