Helene Mecklenburg's Obituary
She was born on April 19, 1918 in Tacoma Washington, the younger daughter of Effie Delilah (Vail) Millett and Frank Arthur Millett. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma and continued her love of life and learning, attending classes at community college and reading extensively.
Helene had an active life, filled with raising five children. She loved to dance and told many stories of going out dancing during the war years with her friends. In her later years she discovered square dancing. She and Hank were active members of Hoosier Partners square dance club. Their home had a large basement and yard which enabled them to host large square dance parties and campouts.
Everyone knew that her truest passion was travel, whether the trip was 5 miles or 5 thousand miles. She truly traveled the world visiting exotic locales such as Egypt, Australia, Korea, Bali, Hong Kong, Argentina (and most of South America), and England to name a few.
Helene loved to help others. She volunteered for over 25 years with Traveler’s Aid at SeaTac airport where she made many lifelong friends. She enjoyed having all her family visit and frequently hosted holiday get-togethers and family reunions. In her later years, she was an active member of the Red Hats which she enjoyed immensely. In order to keep healthy and live independently, Helene joined Curves to keep in shape. She continued her membership until 2009.
Helene was preceeded in death by her parents, sister Grace Clutter, husband Hank, and son Al.
She is survived by children Jim, Richard, Monte (Nancy), Dorothy, and Mary (wife of Al). There are also 10 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Helene was loved by many and will be greatly missed. She was an inspiration to us all.
