Helen Marie Chatwood's Obituary
Helen Marie Chatwood Bryan, 75, a resident of the Timberlake area outside of Shelton, died of lung cancer on March 21, 2004. Helen was born on March 21, 1929 in Brandrup Township, Minnesota. Her parents were Edith Marie (Ayers) and Frederick George Chatwood. Her family moved away from the farm and settled in Tacoma in the 1940Â's. Helen graduated from Stadium High School. She worked as a secretary after graduation and eventually went to work for the federal civil service as a secretary in occupied Japan in 1948. While in Japan, Helen met Cody E. Bryan Jr., an Air Force staff sergeant stationed at Nagoya. They married in Japan in 1950. Helen and Cody lived in a variety of locations in the United States and England as he pursued his military career. Following their return to the Pacific Northwest they lived in Federal Way and Bellingham before retiring to the Shelton area.Helen was preceded in death by her husband Cody and son Fred. She is survived by her son, Cody III (Kassivin) of University Place; and daughters, Susan (Wes) Nicholson of Silverdale, Teresa (John) Mathis of University Place, and Sheila (Mike) Criscione of Federal Way; as well as eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Helen is also survived by sister Myrtle Guhr of Puyallup, brother George Chatwood of Everett, and brother Ken Chatwood of Bellingham.Services are scheduled for Friday, March 26, 2004 at 2:00 PM in the Mountain View Garden Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA 98499.
