Helen Elizabeth Lowe's Obituary
Helen Elizabeth Lowe, 86, a long-time resident of Tacoma, WA passed away on June 17, 2020 at the Care With Dignity Adult Home in Montlake Terrace, WA.
Helen, ninth of eleven children (two died in infancy) born to John R. and Augusta Kraft, was born on Oct 19, 1933 in Selfridge, ND. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Bismarck, ND in 1951 and started her work life as a telephone operator in Bismarck. In 1952 Helen moved to Tacoma, WA to live with and assist her older brother, Jim, and his young family. Later that year Helen met Fred Lowe, a young soldier from Ohio who was stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA near Tacoma. Helen and Fred were married in Tacoma on November 14, 1953. Helen is survived by her two children, Timothy (Spokane) and Yvonne Levy (David) of Shoreline; grandsons Nick Levy (Shoreline), Austin Lowe (Spokane), Gerson Levy (Renton) Keanan Levy (Ravensdalei) Derek Lowe (Seattle) Drew Lowe (Bothell); four great-grandchildren, her brother John Kraft (Gloria) of Sheridan, WY and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Helen and Fred were avid campers, traveling throughout the Pacific Northwest, Canada, California, Utah, and Nevada. They enjoyed weekly dances and Polka Fests with their many friends and neighbors in Tacoma. Several of their long-time friends in Tacoma are/were also “North Dakota transplants.” Helen and Fred returned to Selfridge, ND every summer for many years while their children were growing up. They visited Helen’s family and friends and camped in many national and state parks along the way. Helen’s hobby was making and painting/glazing ceramic ware. She made many beautiful, treasured ceramic pieces for her own home and for friends and relatives. Helen worked for several years as a supervisor in a furniture assembly plant and then for the Boeing Company. In her retirement years Helen treasured the old recipes handwritten by her mother and was known for her love of cooking and her hospitality.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Sylvester, Jim, Ray, Mike, Tom and Joe; her sister, Rose Laintz; and her husband of 62 years, Fred.
Inurnment at Mountain View Memorial Park in Lakewood, Washington. In lieu of flowers a contribution to the American Heart Association is suggested.
