Helen I. Schmieg's Obituary
Helen I. Schmieg Helen passed away on March 23, 2008. She was born on a farm in Hamar, ND on Oct. 4, 1916 to Lillian and William Halstead. She married the love of her life, John, on Feb. 10, 1937, and moved to the Northwest in 1939. They shared many happy years together on Lake Louise, traveling and wintering in Yuma, AZ. Helen worked at various jobs at Western State Hospital. She enjoyed flowers and reading, but her real joy in life was her family, and they adored her in return. She was a woman of tremendous strength, intelligence, and love. She is survived by sisters Irene, Shirley, and MargaretE(Larry), sister-in-law Sylvia Halstead, her daughter Pat Young (Bob), son John Schmieg III (Kathy), sons-in-law Gary Crowell and Charles Nelson, grandchildren Mike (Barb), Sharon (John), Jason (Terry), Christian (Mike), Andrea (Darren), Dennis (Wendy) Keith, Jenny and Kimberly, great-grandchildren Spencer, Taylor, Carter, Andrew, Ava, Conor, Emily, Jake, Haley, Madison and Destiny, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceded in death by her husband John, daughters Elaine Larson and Rebecca Crowell, her parents, sisters Gladys, Dolores, Virginia, Arlene, and brother Neil. Funeral Mass 11:00am Friday, March 28, 2008 at St. Patrick's Church, 1112 N. G St., Tacoma.
