Helen Louise Gutierrez, age 68, of Tacoma, Washington, passed away peacefully at her home on March 14, 2021.
Early Life and Family
Helen was born on December 5, 1952, in Wright City, Oklahoma, to Floyd Walker and Betty Spark. She later made her home in Washington, where she lived for seven years in Tacoma.
Helen was married to Armando Gutierrez, who survives her. As well as her eldest son, Nicholas John Gutierrez, who lovingly cared for her and served as her caregiver upon the death of his brother. She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Kristopher James Gutierrez.
Career and Passions
Helen worked as a cafeteria worker in the school district, where she was known for her kindness, dedication, and the warmth she brought to students and colleagues alike. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her devotion to family, and her ability to make those around her feel cared for.
Outside of work, Helen’s greatest joy was her family. She loved celebrating holidays—especially Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas—always making sure everyone felt welcome. She also enjoyed reading, with a particular fascination for the British Royal Family, its lineage, and World War II, a passion she shared with her sons. Helen believed deeply in the power of education and devoted herself to ensuring her children had every opportunity to succeed.
Family and Legacy
Helen is survived by her husband Armando Gutierrez, and her eldest son Nicholas John Gutierrez all of whom she was extremely close to.
Her legacy lives on in the lives he touched—as a wife, a mother, an aunt, and a friend. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will cherish her love, resilience, and the many moments of joy she shared.
Remembrance
Helen was cremated at Mountain View Crematory in Lakewood, Washington, with arrangements handled by Mountain View Funeral Home.
