Helen Elvina Haines' Obituary
Helen was born June 22, 1909 in Tacoma, and grew up playing with her friends and cousins in the area around South 19th and M Street. In those days ice was delivered to homes by horse and wagon, so she obviously saw many changes over her 94 year life. Helen worked as a secretary for Tacoma Home Service Laundry, Prudential Insurance, and the University of Puget Sound Department of Political Science and History. She could type like the wind, and, in those days of typewriters and carbon copies, was so accurate that she rarely had to start over. Her husband, Minard, died in 1977. Helen is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Richard) Bushnell of Vancouver, WA; her son, Robert (Martha) of Kirkland, WA; three granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.Her family expresses special thanks to Martha Haines, her daughter-in-law and Monica and Joanne of Hope Adult Family Home for being HelenÂ's excellent caregivers for the past 5 years. Graveside services will be held at 12:30pm on Saturday, May 10th at Mt. View Memorial Park, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Tacoma. Remembrances may be made to Evergreen Hospice Services, 12822 124th Lane NE, Kirkland, WA 98034.
