Helen E. Blake
Helen was born on June 20, 1925 to Edward and Sadie Stewart near Murdock, MN. She passed away on August 21, 2012 at the Weatherly Inn in Tacoma, WA. She married Francis Blake on February 12, 1944 in Willmar, MN. On September 6, 1945 their daughter, Sherry, was born. The family moved to Tacoma in 1948.
Helen worked at Western State Hospital starting in the early 1950's and retired from there in 1985. She also worked at Sears in Lacey and Support Enforcement in downtown Tacoma. She was a caregiver most of her life, taking care of and helping people at work, home and wherever needed.
Helen was an independent, strong-willed and energetic woman. Some of her favorite things to do were camping, boating, aerobics, bowling, gardening, cooking and most of all, having fun with friends and family.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband Frank, grandson Paul Akins, sister Mildred Nelson, brother Roland Stewart and his wife Vi, nephew Randy Nelson, Harry Conrad, Tom Akins, best friend Helen Jakes, and many other dear friends.
Survivors include daughter Sherry (Ben) Gervais of Tacoma; granddaughter Michelle (Rich) Neves and great-grandson Connor of Kirkland, WA; brother-in-law Virgil Nelson; brother-in-law Keith Blake; step-daughter Diane (Bob) Harris; and many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and extended family and friends.
We want to especially thank the Weatherly Inn for their kindness and care for Helen the last 7 years. Thank you to Group Health Hospice for their care and guidance in these last few months.
A memorial and viewing will be held on 08/28/2012 at 3:00PM in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Memorial Park.
