HELEN LOUISE GARLETT ALLEN
Born in Sargent, MO, on December 16, 1933; died February 6, 2021.
Graduate of Grand County High School in Moab, UT 1951; Linfield College in McMinville, OR 1955 (B.A.); and Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Centre, MA 1958 (Masters in Religious Education).
Received Jesus as Savior and Lord in July of 1947 and was baptized by immersion shortly thereafter in First Baptist Church of Moab, UT; received the “baptism in the Holy Spirit” in September of 1972.
Married George T. Allen of Pittsfield, MA (seminary sweetheart) in Pittsfield on September 6, 1956.
Served as Vacation Bible School Director in First Congregational Church of Holden, MA summer 1957, Director of Christian Education in Chestnut Street Congregational Church of Worcester, MA 1957-1958, and pastor’s wife and unpaid Christian Education Director for her husband’s churches in the United Protestant Churches of Mesa and Eltopia, WA 1958-1963; First Congregational Church of Pasco, WA 1968-1981, and Oberlin Congregational Church in Steilacoom, WA 1981-1997.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, George T Allen; three children--David W. (Terri) of Pasco, Elizabeth R./“Betsy” of Steilacoom, and Jonathan P. of Tacoma; five grand-children—Amber Davis (Damien), Auburn Allen (Richard Bartlett), Azure Bonilla , Sarah Regan, and Josef Suveg (Zandra Jones); and eleven great-grandchildren--Jordan, Helen Claire, Kayla, Lira, and Marcus Davis; Issac Muradanes and Richard Xavier Bartlett; Keana and Katara Bonilla; Chloe Regan; and Sasha Suveg. Also scattered siblings—Billie Provonsha,
Bobbie Holt of LaSal, UT, Shirley Herzer of Germany, and Harold Garlett of Brunswick, TX.
